Winter Sport Camps

Scarlet Softball Camp
This camp is for any softball player regardless of ability. Basic technique will be offered along with a variety of drills for the accomplished player. The clinic staff will consist of Mankato West coaching staff along with current Scarlet softball players. The emphasis will be throwing, hitting, fielding, and pitching. Weight training and conditioning specific to softball will be introduced. The spring seas is just around the corner. We are excited to get softball season underway. This is an opportunity to get a jump on the upcoming season and to simply have some fun! 

Every player will receive a camp t-shirt along with quality instruction! All campers will need tennis shoes, glove and bat (if it is smaller than a high school bat).

Saturday Morning Sports

Saturday Morning Youth Sports sessions last for a full hour, starting with practice time followed by game time. Make your one-time-a-week trip worth your while! If you like, you can even run a couple of errands while your child plays under the guidance of trained, qualified staff.

Rules & basic fundamentals are covered at the beginning of each session. No experience or equipment necessary; we will provide it all! There are no uniform costs as we provide colored jerseys each week if needed. Basic fundamentals are taught along with an emphasis on low-key competition, allowing children to participate equally and to have fun while being physically active. Everyone plays!

In each sport, teams will be formed according to grades and school, exceptions may arise due to registration numbers. All sports are held on Saturday mornings.

Schedules will be mailed out once registration has closed.

Pre K Sports

Our Pre-K Youth Sports program is designed to introduce Pre-K students to the world of organized sports and will help them develop the fundamental skills of a specific sport!This program is for students who are in Pre-K, ages 4 & 5 who have not yet gone to Kindergarten. Pre-K Youth Sports will follow the same format as Saturday Morning Youth Sports in which fun and good sportsmanship are stressed! Stay active all year round and make new friends with Pre-K Youth Sports!


Each sport lasts for 5 weeks (T-Ball is a 4 week program). In each sport, teams will be formed according to grades and school, exceptions may arise due to registration numbers. All sports are held on Saturday mornings. 

Schedules will be mailed once registration deadline is complete.

Archery

Archery is a great way for boys and girls to get involved in something new! Our program utilizes the NASP curriculum and equipment and will teach the basics of using a compound bow. Classes are taught by a certified NASP instructor and will provide a safe and fun introduction to the sport of archery! Commands, signals, techniques and shooting challenges are all part of the program. Come learn about equipment and participate in a low-pressure and supportive environment. All equipment is provided.

We provide beginner and intermediate classes for grades 4-6. Participants MUST successfully complete our CER beginner archery before registering for intermediate.

Archery for Teens
Teens (grades 7-12) now have the opportunity to become involved in archery and explore the world of target shooting! Participation within an archery program has been shown to increase student concentration, positive behavior, motivation and focus!

The focus of this camp is to have fun and learn the great game of football. Campers will receive instruction in basic fundamentals from Mankato East Football Coaches and Players. Older campers will be introduced to our Cougar Offense and Defense in preparation for their fall season. Participants should bring athletic shoes or cleats, along with shorts and a water bottle.

26th Annual Mankato East Boys’ Basketball Camp. The Cougars have had a strong basketball tradition for the last fifteen years. The Cougars have qualified for the state tournament 5x in the span and have 20 or more games 7x in that stretch of years. The entire coaching staff is excited to help your son improve on his shooting, ball handling, passing, and general knowledge of the game. We will play competitive 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 games during the week of camp. We look forward to seeing you there!

This camp is for Dist. 77 students that attend Mankato East or reside in the East district in grades 9-12.  The camp is intended to work on skills and drills that will better the athletes individually as well as team concepts that will be used for the upcoming season.  Each camper will receive a T-shirt.

This is a chance for those that play volleyball to refine, strengthen, and expand their skill set. Athletes will use those individual skills while they learn offensive and defensive systems in team play. Athletes need to wear something comfortable in a warm gym. Some kind of sport court shoe is recommended. Knee pads and a water bottle can be brought but not required to have.

Join the Scarlet coaching staff, current and former Scarlet players at football camp this summer!  Offensive and defensive fundamentals will be highlighted at this non-contact camp along with training on proper tackling techniques.  This camp features individual teaching time, along with team sessions that will culminate in competitive 7-on-7 game situations.  This camp is for those who are interested in sharpening their football skills.

Workout clothing will be required (shorts, t-shirt, and football shoes or other appropriate footwear).  No helmets or pads will be needed.

This is a 4 day camp running from 9 am-12 pm on Monday June 17th through Thursday June 20th at Mankato West High School.  Athletes will learn and develop basic skills in ball handling, footwork, passing, 3 on 3, 5 on 5, individual defense, and such team aspects.  Athletes will participate in daily contests and awards will be given for such items as Camp MVP, Mr. Hustle, and Leadership.  Camp will be run by the Mankato West High School coaching staff and varsity athletes.

This camp is a great opportunity for any student interested in learning more about the sport of volleyball.  Our camp is for the first time athlete or for the more advanced athlete wanting to enhance her volleyball skills.  This camp is also a great opportunity to prepare for the fall season as a West volleyball athlete.  The camp will focus on teaching the fundamentals of volleyball, the meaning of teamwork, and having fun through competitive drills and new experiences.  Each student-athlete will participate in stations, team drills, and competition.  We will also be having guest speakers with a variety of college level volleyball experience.

Grades 7-12
This program welcomes participants from ANY sport going into 7th-12th grades in the fall of 2019 and is aimed at improving overall physical strength and anaerobic fitness.  Participants will spend half of their time outside working on linear and lateral speed along with conditioning.  The other half of the time will be spent in the weight room.  Emphasis will be on perfection of techniques in lifting, running, agility, and plyometrics.  The program focuses on creating or enhancing explosiveness for athletes in all sports and at all levels.  Students participating in this program will need indoor/outdoor shoes and athletic wear.

Summer Outdoor Recreation Courses

MNSU Summer Climbing Club

MNSU Summer Climbing Club
Come climb at the MNSU Rock Climbing Pinnacle this Summer!  Enjoy exclusive access to our outdoor facility with just 11 of your peers, plus individualized climbing instruction from or experienced staff!  We'll offer three Clubs that meet once per week for brand-new, some-experienced, and very experienced climbers for up to 14 weeks.*  Climbers have completed a summer Climbing Camp with us in the past, but have not climbed since, would suitable for Mavericks Climbing Club on Wednesdays. Club membership includes a 4-month climbing pass + gear rental at our climbing facilities during public hours! 

*Summer of 2019 the Indoor Climbing Wall is closed due to facility flooring repairs.  The only climbing facility for our summer programs and use is the Outdoor Climbing Pinnacle located near the observatories and High Ropes Course on the campus of Minnesota State University.

*Clubs meet at the assigned day/time May 13-August 16, weather permitting.  We will make every effort to notify parents of weather cancellations up to an hour before clubs.  No rescheduling or refunds available for cancellations.

MNSU Summer Adventure Camp

MNSU Summer Adventure Camp
Grades 5-8
Are you the adventurous type?  Do you enjoy challenging yourself to try new things?  This adventure camp is like no other in Mankato!  Get to know the other people in your group and work together to conquer new heights on MNSU's High Ropes Course, 40 feet off the ground!  Camp will include climbing on MNSU Rock Climbing Pinnacle, challenge course elements, games and carious team building challenges!  Participants will be challenged to work individually and together as a group, learning how to work as a team.  You will be led and instructed by the MNSU Adventure Education Program staff, teaching you the equipment, knots and skills to help you to be successful as you test yourself high up in the air!

This is a great opportunity for boys and girls to learn about and try the game of golf.  This introduction to golf will cover many of the basic essential tools to play the game.  We will provide all the equipment needed.  Included in the fee is access to the driving  range, putting/chipping green, range balls and rental clubs.

Youth Pickleball

Come try out one of the fastest growing paddle sports in the U.S!  Pickleball is a cross between badminton, tennis, and ping-pong.  This is a great opportunity to get outside and to keep physically active and have fun this summer!  Rules and basic fundamentals will be covered in a kid-friendly environment.  Players will get the chance to work with Adult Pickleball enthusiasts and play other kids in various games throughout the session!  No previous experience is needed and all equipment will be provided.

Geocaching

Geocaching
Come find your inner explorer!  Back again, by popular demand, students will be given the opportunity to participate in one of the most up-and-coming outdoor recreation activities!  Geocaching is the modern-day version of a treasure hunt that can be done in groups of all sizes and encourages team building and togetherness!  The two-day camp will focus on the basics of geocaching using GPS units and the internet to find caches with the assistance of Scott Kudelka, Minneopa State Park Naturalist.  Students will travel around the Lincoln Community Center neighborhoods to find caches, as well as create their own caches for others to find!  Please wear tennis shoes, as there will be a lot of walking as we search for treasure!

Experience The Great Outdoors

Experience The Great Outdoors
Put down the video games this summer and come enjoy the Great Outdoors! This Two-day camp offers youth the opportunity to experience a variety of outdoor activities including digital photography, animal tracks & signs, wilderness survival, water quality and fishing within the Minnesota River.  Participants will build self-confidence, learn how to work as a team, develop critical thinking skills and gain a sense of respect for the environment.  All activities will be taught by Minneopa State Park Naturalist Scott Kudelka , along with CER staff. Don't miss your chance to experience the Great Outdoors!
Class will meet in the park shelter nearest the Minnesota River and baseball diamonds.

Minnesota River Paddle

Minnesota River Paddle
Here is a perfect chance to learn how to paddle a canoe and learn about some of the history, culture and natural world of the Minnesota River. We provide the canoes along with paddles, life jackets and an experienced guide.  This is an ideal program for students who want to learn about water quality and the natural resources of the river.

It's back by popular demand-the summer track & field program!  Coach Scott Carlson and a host of other track coaches from East and West High School programs are gearing up to offer your child a FUN and CHALLENGING summer track & field experience!  We will distribute many ribbons at the citywide meet.  Each participant will also receive a track program T-shirt.  You simply cannot miss your chance to begin building your track skills... or better yet, just to have fun outdoors!  Register early- only the first 115 athletes accepted at each site.  Rain or threatening weather conditions cancel track.
